Yanara Suenaga (b. Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico) is a Mexican photographer of Japanese descent currently based in New York. Her work explores intimacy, identity, and human connection through documentary and portrait photography, guided by an attention to presence, perception, and the quieter dimensions of human experience.

Before turning to photography, Suenaga worked in the field of philosophy of law. Her academic path took her from Mexico City to New York and Spain, where she pursued graduate studies and later began doctoral research before shifting toward a more intuitive and experiential form of inquiry through image-making.

Having lived across Mexico, Canada, Spain, and the United States, and traveled to more than 23 countries, her practice is shaped by encounters with people and communities across different cultural contexts. Her photographs often emerge from listening, shared space, and long conversations, carrying traces of the stories others choose to reveal.

She currently studies Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York.
